The most important upgrade for many NYC doors
In New York City, the bottom lock alone is often not enough. Many apartment entry doors still rely on old knob locks, weak cylinders, or hardware that was installed years ago with convenience in mind, not real resistance. A properly installed top lock adds an extra layer that is much harder to bypass, kick, or manipulate under pressure.
That is why top lock installation is one of the first upgrades we recommend after a move-in, after a lockout caused by worn hardware, or whenever a customer says they do not feel confident in the current front door. We look at the door material, frame, alignment, and existing prep so the new hardware is not just stronger on paper, but reliable in everyday use too.
When a top lock upgrade makes sense
- You moved into a new apartment and want stronger security than the current lock provides.
- Your existing deadbolt sticks, wobbles, or feels unreliable when locking up at night.
- You want better resistance against forced entry and day-to-day wear.
- You are upgrading to a high-security cylinder and want the rest of the door setup to match.
